Just want to share a few thoughts. This past week I have been to two wakes. One for a 93 year old man that passed after a long productive life and who is now at peace and the other was for a 49 year old man that choose to end his life. I am starting this conversation as the 49 year old seemed to have so much going for him, a loving wife and 4 beautiful children. He had a good job and was a volunteer firefighter where I work. I knew him personally and my girls and their friends knew him from watching Sunday football. He was involved in many organizations and was socially active and well loved.
My reason for sharing this is that it so many struggle with depression and other emotional issues and from the outside it is hard to know who is at risk. Depression runs in my family and my mother only sought help in her later years. It is a struggle for so many and can be so debilitating and it is not a topic that we share openly.
After experiencing the unexpected shock of the news of this man that I called a friend I just want to reach out to my DVG friends and hope that if one is struggling to reach out and not be alone. We all have challenges in our life that impact our journey so share the road with a friend.

Depression is a black hole that people see no way out of. Signs are hard to see but all someone needs to do is ask for help.. and hopefully someone will hear it.

Well worded Audrey. It is SHOCKING how many people both suffer depression and who rationalize suicide.

The hard part is the asking for help. You know you should but you just don't care. Thankfully I never slipped that low, but I know those who have. The best we can do is watch over those that need it and offer whatever help we can. 49, wow. So much more life to be lived.

It breaks my heart every time I see someone has succumbed to suicide, just knowing how lonely and desperate they feel at that point to make that decission. Having first hand experience knowing what other people see is not always what is what we feel.
