Suffolk County Camping Kickoff - May 17-19

Gauging interest in the Suffolk County Committee for Camping’s annual “Kick Off” event held May 17-19 at Cathedral Pines campground.
We loosely discussed this “replacing” Buses by the Big Duck and a few people seemed willing to go.
This is the same weekend as Dubs in the Shrubs, and if we’re planning to attend we will need to preregister. I for one, will do either but don’t want to “blow off” Dubs in the Shrubs for this if no one is going to show up.
Weigh in if you’d want to go, I would likely arrive on the 16th.

We do this every year and this one won't be any different.

I think I can do this. Gemma would be a maybe, depending on if it's her weekend to work or not.

Do we need a Suffolk pass or anything?

You don’t need a Green Key, but you do have to pre-register.
Since Tom and Ronnie are familiar, I’m going to see if they’re willing to register first and then the rest of us who want to go just put the same group name. I don’t know much more than that but I’ll message their club’s President on FB and wait for Tom and Ronnie to get back - I think they’re driving back to NY as we speak.

We do need a registered club name (i don't know if it has to be a camping club) Last year I made up a name so I could camp with some other people (who couldn't make it) and they ended up charging me $7 . Not a big deal but it would be nice if we could use the clubs name on the registration.

As the absolute authority on being a "nobody" I hereby authorize you to use the DasVolks name to register us as a camping group.

Great. I’m on my way back up from FL. I’ll get mine in as soon as I’m back home.

Ok, so as to keep this "near the top" - if you are planning to join for the Kickoff you need to pre-register. Their process is ancient but it is what it is...
Print and mail completed application & check payable to “SCC” to:
SCC KICKOFF, 165 Oak Street, Medford, NY 11763
Make sure to put "Das Volks" as your club name at the top so you are with our group.
I will likely head out on Thursday the 16th after work.

I'm all set! The organizer called yesterday to confirm he got my "stuff" and go over all the happenings for "first timers"
I'm excited - a little bummed that this is the same weekend as Dubs in the Shrubs but am excited to do a new event.
I put in for early arrival - so I may head out on the 16th if I can sneak out of work early. Otherwise I'll be out there early on Friday.

It was a good time! Maybe a bit too organized for me. It did feel a bit like a camping suburb with campers neatly in rows; many of which occupied by people who seemed to never come out except to fuel their generators! lol

I would go again though. Maybe try to get one of the regular campsites though - even if it meant still paying the SCCC fees and just not parking in their rows. But for your trailer, we all could have fit on almost any of those otherwise empty group sites. It would have greatly improved the camping experience. I realize that "our style" of camping is not what most folks in their RV's and travel trailers want however.

Still, hanging with you guys all weekend was a ton of fun! The weather didn't stop us!
