A Bay is a great driver, of course, fuel economy isn't what a a Beetle would be, but it's also not horrible.
Parking is a non issue. A Bus really isn't much larger than a Beetle. They're tall, not long. If people can park explorers and small SUVs, a bus would EASILY fit.
Front crash protection on a late bay, could in some ways be better than a Beetle, especially an early car.
The frame rails on a bay are higher than a Beetle, more in line with the bumpers on modern cars, and most small-mid sized SUVs. Also, the front of a Bay is reinforced (dispite people liking to believe that since it is flat, it is weak)
More so than a low Beetle which will likely dive under the rear of most higher sedans or SUVs, putting the drivers face right in line with a tow hitch or bumper.

There are several Beetles on CL, I don't think you're going to step into anything for $500 though. That's asking for a miracle.
Supers are great, I LOVED my 71 1302. Originally I thought a flat window Super looked stupid, but I soon realized they really are a great blend of Super ride, with Standard look.

1303's are cool, but they're really fat looking... :P

I have two cars coming, a 58 and 59ish bug, both complete but need everything ( floors, mechanical rebuild). Just an idea....... Both are weathered and black.

Still, id prefer a 70's car to sit in traffic on the lie, and side of the street in nyc. But if interested... watch for the ads to be posted in two weeks.

Raj When I'm in the city (queens) I'm in a private lot. Parking is not an issue. My only hesitation on a car that old would be the non-fully synchro transaxle. I do have some 90% finished stainless steel floor pans my father and I made but abandoned in favor of stock replacements for my first Beetle. As long as they are not complete basket cases I'm interested.

'Basket case' is a fun term. Imagine a car or two sitting in under a tree since the early 80's. That's what we got! Pics coming soon

Good sir, you're blatant lack of respect for his Holiness NPH, means you may be subject to DVG-excommunication for an undetermined period of time, or until the show is over.

Raj, it is a good show. Tiff and I watch it a lot. Mr NPH is one of the main reasons to watch it.

Spoke to him. Car sounds decent but he kept saying the bulkhead should be replaced. I asked him what he meant by that and he started talking about the rear by the trailing arms. I've never seen that rust. He said you could drive it and he did. But if you wanted to restore it you should replace it. Either I'm not understanding him or something's very wrong with that car.

maybe he means the 'rear by the trailing arms', he is talking about the rear most of the front arms? Have him send a pic.

Yeah, he made it sound like the rear. But I've never seen them rot there. Especially not on such a new one.

It looks like there is serious tunnel rot in one of interior shots where it meets the floor!

Isn't the Bulkhead in the front of the car, they rust on the SB. Didn't Mike H reaplce the bulkhead on Reese?

Yeah, I saw that too. Idk it's cheap, and I know what you get when things are cheap. I'm beginning to think I'd rather build another standard as a DD. Even an early link pin, ball bearing, 6 volt car.

That was the framehead, and that can rot on a standard too. I wonder if he is talking about the package tray ?

Is it worth messing with fuel injected cars? Found a guy with a 77 standard that he can get running. Has a bunch of new parts and it's a factory sunroof car which I always liked. Just not super familiar with the VW F.I. Thoughts?

Tons of 75+ cars have been converted to carb. Just need a electric pump bc the fueli case has no pump hole.
