What's the problem?

We need details on the issues.

Dont have any issues and hope not to but wanted to know how others felt about this transmission . I have heard that some have converted to stardard due to issues with function of automatic and less power with automatic

Most people don't care for them but there's also a loyal following that love them. All that matters is what you like.

Ed has a 74 Super with a autostick and he loves it when driving in traffic.

Converting to a 4 speed manual is pretty straight forward and i've done a few.

When thy work they work, when they break parts can be hard to find.

Roll with it, if it works then don't go trying to swap anything out. They're nice little cars and they can be reliable.
I would suggest heading into the Garage Space forum, and start a thread on your car. As you have questions, issues, or as you do work you come back and record it or post up to create a record of your history worth the car.

As for how others feel about the transmission, ignore them. The Autosticks have a following. You already own the car, love it and don't let other people's opinion tarnish your enjoyment of your car.

Congratulations on your purchase! Everyone is going to tell you convert it to a 4 speed. Don't do it unless you burn up the autostick or you put a big motor in it! Join us at the Holiday parade and see how nice it is in traffic! Don't fear the Autostick! Good luck Ed.

There may be a following for them, but the one we had down here we couldn't give away.

I've driven an autostick in a ghia for a few months and other then the clutch slamming into gear it drives pretty nice. I didn't think I lost much power or acceleration!

Echo all comments above.... the A/S is a unique breed. I had one in one of my first cars a 68 ( Yes, 68's with A/S were IRS). Works fine..... until it broke. Then swapped it all out. My suggestion would be to find another working set up in a parts car, if possible. They come up for sale once in a while. Would be nice to have a back up.
PS..... dont rest your hand on that shifter!

You're not gonna need to swap it out.

Otto (Edncarol) have been running the AS for a few years now! IIRC it needed service when they first pulled the car from it't dusty garage but has been good since.
My 74 had the AS, it was fine. The only issue I had with it was that my car had the rubber matts through the whole car and wore through the reverse signal wire. Once that was "found" it was a good little car.
