Yesterday afternoon i wire wheeled and sanded the rust off the beam. Then i sand blasted the parts i had cut off. Next i welded everything back on in preperation of spalshing some paint on it today.

This morning i put on a coat of prime.

I also removed the other adjustable beam from the car in preperation for installing the new narrowed beam.

Thoughts on methods of shortening the tie rods?

i read one place to cut them in the middle and reweld them, and another place said to cut some off the end and then extend the threads by tapping it.

That is a very fair comment, however in my defense... I did not like the way the front end looked so high in the air so i decided to install an adjustable front end i had, which would have been a quick job. THen i figured while i am replacing the beam i would install the front disk brakes i picked up at Englishtown last year, unfortunately as luck would have it i needed to replace the calipers. So while i waited fro the calipers to come in the mail i figured i would make a narrowed adjustable beam. The calipers are expected in on the 30th, so with the progress i am making it should be back together when the calipers get here.

With any luck i'll be rolling up to the CRW fundraiser in my bug.

I drilled the dimples in the shortened torsion bars. I used a 1/8 " bit to drill a pilot hole and then enlarged larged it with a 3/16 " bit. Then I used a tappered bit to drill the dimple. Slow speed on the drill press and some cutting oil to keep the bits cool.

Last thing left to do is to shorten the tierods and install it.
