Buses by the Big Duck 2017

Postby ObnoxiousBlue » Tue Jan 10, 2017 9:44 am

Join us for the 17th Annual Buses by the Big Duck VW Campout from June 2nd through June 4th at Indian Island County Park and Campground in Riverhead, NY!
We'll be camping in a reserved group areas 2 and 4, on sites equipped with electric and water.
We never run out of room, and last minute arrivals are always welcome! Brings your bikes, bathing suits, canoes, and kayaks to enjoy the bay!
Friday's welcome-party theme is "Black Tie Affair" but no suits or slacks are allowed! So get creative!
Award to the best theme-decorated site!
Please RSVP with the number of campers in your group.
Remember, pot-luck is on Saturday evening followed by a group campfire!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Suffolk County Parks has changed their pricing for groups in 2017.
The County now requires at least 50% of campers to have a Green Key - or, pay significantly higher pricing.
Since many of our guests are from Nassau County and New England (and non-resident pricing is now at $39/night!), in order to accommodate everyone while keeping site rates reasonable the following prices will be in effect for 2017:
$30/night - Resident or Non Resident
While the current prices from Suffolk County are about $5 less per night (for a Suffolk Resident with a Green Key), each of us covering a little more helps to ensure that we don't disinterest campers from beyond our quaint little island.
Your CASH-ONLY payment will be collected by Mike at the group site. But, please check in at the front gate upon your arrival to the campground.

Pets are allowed in the campground, but must be licensed, and vaccinated.
You must have the actual rabies certificate, and a license with you. The tag alone is not proof enough.
Dog's must be leashed and under the control of their owner at all times.

For futher information, feel free to contact Mike at mikeh@dasvolks.com

I'm ready. My bus will be there, albeit incomplete. It won't be able to get to the body shop until the Sunday I return from the duck. It has some smal rust spots popping up that will be addressed before the bumpers and all go back on.

No, as far as I am concerned this is no longer a "LIMBO" event. In my taking it over, I believe it became a DVG event and I quite enjoy it. The only LIMBO input I acknowledge in relation to BBTBD is Brad and Andrea - as Andrea worked very hard, for many years to build the duck up.
Added, that LIMBO's contribution is like $25 - an arbitrary figure but one which demonstrates how little they put in for the privilege of it being called a LIMBO event.

Also, the raffle is not making a return for this year. We have a few items sent by Go Westy which will be handed out by door prize, and we will do a 50/50.
I have sound reasoning, so please effort to understand.

The county costs for the site have jumped disproportionately - especially for non residents. In order to keep the fees reasonable, and keep our friends from New England coming down I have personally set aside my money to subsidize the overage. Remember, residents are paying a few dollars more at our camp this year so that non resident's don't get assaulted with ridiculous fees. I still want things to be reasonable for our regulars and residents, so I AM PERSONALLY absorbing that cost.
In doing so, I will not be laying out money for 2017's raffle items. This is a give and take. I do plan to bring the raffle back in 2018 once I have a handle on how much money I need to keep set aside for our sites.

I know alot of people look forward to the raffles, and it was always a big attraction for me. But I hope you all understand - at least why in 2017 - there is no raffle.

Mike.
I wouldn't worry about it. Those of use that know you, I mean, really know you..... trust your judgement and know you always have good intentions. Appreciate you managing this as you normally do and offering to lay out cash. It again only exemplifies your good nature and selflessness. Im happy to toss is some loot to help.

I'll be by Sat later afternoon as Liam has a game at noon on Sat. Looking fwd to catching up and seeing some old friends.

Hey Mike, you don't need to lay out the cash . Like Raj I will be happy to help defray the costs. :D

I didn't realize Limbo's contribution was so small, I agree with you.

I think Ronnie already bought a couple of items to contribute to the auction, we can mothball them until next year, no big deal.
