First Restoration

Postby Nicholas322 » Sun Aug 30, 2015 11:35 pm

I'm Nicholas from Brooklyn and the owner of a 1966 VW beetle. Like many when I bought it I thought it just needed a little work but a year later I am just getting a handle on the major work and need 3 more things before I start the interior.
When I was 5 years old I was exposed to a lot of special cars and one of them was my uncles VW beetle. I still have the photo on my fridge. Later a cousin bought a blue 66 and I remember her telling me "Hold ON!" when we took off and I held on to the dash handle while we sped up to 18 MPH.
I found the blue 66 and now its in my garage, all original ready for a restoration.
The red one needs some help and advice from club members.
I would love to meet some members that live near buy.
I also have a proven idea for a fuel less heating system which can be adapted for our air cooled cars. It can be used with the engine off without 120 volt power. I believe it would benefit us all.

I have been stuck here taking care of my mom. We are just getting steeled with home heath aids so soon I would love to get out there. Does anybody know if there are any members in Brooklyn? I am on my own and not a mechanic. My red car I want to make into a driver and my blue car I would like to take all the way.
Thanks

There's a few in BK! For starters, Sarah and Markus. Sarah has two squarebacks and a bus, and Markus rocks a maroon Westy. There were a few more I met when we were at Traffic Jam too. Forget their names, but both had busses.

I know Markus. I was hoping for a few beetle folks. I used to belong to his club but people don't show at the meetings or answer posts on his meetup page.

Tell me about it, it's pretty difficult to keep a club motivated... We're happy to have you guys!
Markus is an OK guy, his dog is cooler though! (kidding!)
Are you going to come out to the Aircooled Gathering next weekend?

I don't believe so. Its going to take until October 1st to get settled at home. My mom is paralyzed and cannot speak.
I am just getting Medicaid to give me 2 aids to help me and its my moms 82 birthday. I kept telling myself that I will get my cars when all this is over but it looks like my mom will outlive me so I finally bought them. I just ordered a 66 convertible deck lid and new tin because I am having trouble cooling the engine. I have read that the 66 bugs overheated in some countries and this bug has an 1835 engine that overheats and vapor locks up after 1/2 mile. run it with no hood and it runs fine. It is tough doing everything from books and magazines.

Nick,
Post up some pics when you can, and ask the technical questions as you have them. Happy to help. Welcome.
