I am Ainokea, I live in Honolulu Hawaii, I am 78 years old and two years a retired VW mechanic. My current vehicle is a 73 type 1, that my wife does not allow me to drive because of hip surgery. I am allowed to service and maintain it. Big whoop! I hope to stay up to date on things Volkswagen by posts on here and a couple of other sites. Thanks, Ainokea

Glad to have you. Nice to see we still have an international appeal!
Though, we seem to have lost Steve from Christ Church, NZ.
Looking forward to seeing some photos and checking out this bug!

I tried to put up some photos but it seems they're to big and won't load. Problem is I don't know how to resize. Ainokea

Host them on a online site like Photobucket or Google Photos and then link them.

As mike said you have to host your pictures, you can't attach JPEGS.

Host them on a online site like Photobucket or Google Photos and then link them.

Sorry ainokea, the upload feature on the site is installed, but there are no "albums" there - meaning when you upload a photo the site doesn't know where to put it - so it can't display it. We had grandiose visions of using it to store photos from our own events but as it turns out - none of us really take many photos. That, and facebook has become the ultimate leveler of chat forums.

So, if you want to post images here, this is the easiest way to do it.
Go to http://www.photobucket.com and create a free account.
When you log in, you will see a button that says "Upload" with an icon of an arrow pointing up into a cloud - click it.
Drag and drop or browse your computer and upload the image you want to post. You can drag and drop multiple photos if you want.
As your photo uploads, there is a short ad - you don't need to watch it.
Next, click "View Uploads" this button will take you to your library where all of your photos are stored.
Click on the photo you want to post.
The photo will get large, and to the right side is a field maked "Share this photo" with four lines of code under it.
The line of code you want is marked "Direct" this is the actual link to your image, sort of an address of where that photo now lives on the internet. Copy that code.
Come back here to DVG, and click the "Img" button above the post text box.
Clicking "Img" will give you the BB code for an image, it looks like this:
Code: Select all
[img][/img]

Paste your "Direct" code in between the two "]["s
The first [img] tells the website to expect an image inline. Then comes your code which will look something like this:
Code: Select all
http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh180/obnoxiousblue/zits_zpsg7oz0dgo.jpg

The [/img] tells the website that your image has ended.
All in, your post will look like this:
Code: Select all
[img]http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh180/obnoxiousblue/zits_zpsg7oz0dgo.jpg[/img]

If you get it right - and you will - an image will display.
Image

Another way to do it is to use the code marked "IMG", it looks like this:
Code: Select all
[URL=http://s256.photobucket.com/user/obnoxiousblue/media/zits_zpsg7oz0dgo.jpg.html][IMG]http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh180/obnoxiousblue/zits_zpsg7oz0dgo.jpg[/IMG][/URL]

Copy that code, and paste it here, it will give you a photo to the site.
The drawback to the second way is that while it is definitely faster (by a few clicks) it turns your photo into a link back to photobucket.com and your library, which disables DVG's enlarge image feature.

Thanks for the tips but I will just hang out for now and figure this photo thing out some other time. As you might have guessed I am no computer wiz and a lot of this stuff is way over my head. It reminds me of the transition from aircooled to watercooled, just go slow and easy to get it done. Eventually I will get it done, but for now I'd rather just hang in here and see how you guys get it done. I know about Glen Ring's distributor site and the work he does. As a matter of fact I currently run an old Bosch 019 distributor, that I rebuilt, on my 1956cc with a Pertronix module and coil. I had 2, 010's one was sold with my 63 van and the other was given to a friend who was racing. That being said, I'm sure this site will be informative and accurate, again thanks for having me. Yesterday, September 4, the VW club of Hawaii held their annual show n' shine gathering at Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu. There was a turnout of at least 3oo or more bugs, bus's, buggies, notchbacks, square and fastbacks. The hurricane that was threatening passed us by and it was a bright sunshine day. I can't show any photos but if you like go to facebook then type in VW club of Hawaii. tons of photos and some videos. you might even find my ride in there somewhere. Ainokea

If anybodies interested in the VW scene in Hawaii just go to VW Club Of Hawaii or Facebook if you like. We do have a couple of clubs with some pretty good sized memberships and of course the Big Island and Maui clubs. There is a race track on the Big Island, I'm not sure about Maui, the track here in Honolulu closed a few years ago and efforts to get another anytime soon look rather dim. This last club gathering was impressive to say the least. I wish I could've entered but my bug is a daily driver and I don't think there's a category for that. I do keep it clean and and well maintained, but trophy show car, no. I have looked for photos of cars on this site but no luck. I get no action in gallery, So I will keep poking around til I hit on something. I have seen photos of Glen Rings bug on another site sometime back, and liked what I saw, so I'm sure there are some other good ones in the mist out there. The pleasure is mine, Ainokea

Not many daily drivers in the line up. They only come out for shows and cruises. Mine is a daily driver that I keep up and maintain. Gives me something to break the boredom of retirement, lucky to have all the tools and equipment to do anything needed to keep it on the road and looking fairly good.
