Buses by the Big Duck 2020 is set! Join us June 5, 6, and 7 at Indian Island Campground nestled right in the crotch of Long Island's twin forks! If you anticipate joining us, please consider sending me a PM with your name, address, and number of people in your party so that I can better prepare and register out group with Suffolk County Parks. The game changes every year, but the fun never goes away!
Questions, reach out to me!

To anyone reading this I am making a plea to have you contact the Governor, your State Representative and the County Executive to ask for the reopening of the campgrounds. They have reopened the golf courses and marinas, so the decision to close campgrounds appears arbitrary . If you don't complain you can kiss this summer goodbye !

email your state Representatives, this is BS. Email the Governor , that's what I have been doing. If I have to drag my trailer up to Albany , well that's on the table too.

Odds are you've already been added to his 'blacklist" ;)

As long as people respect keeping their distance, if still needed, I don't see why not.

But as we already see parks are crowded and there was a huge crowd in Borough Park at the funeral of a rabbi.

I won't go on the Bethpage path in the Massapequa Preserve or in Bethpage Park where people are all over the place and at some choke points, they are shoulder to shoulder.

I road to Tobay yesterday and the boardwalk is crowded to the point that took my break some place else.

So as of today.. I can't see it. But as time passes I can see things loosen up.

One thing that made me laugh were people in bicycle wearing face masks but no helmet. Maybe they don't realize they are more likely to fall and suffer a head impact than to catch Covid from someone that's passing. I guess they have their priorities backwards.

We went to a park near us last weekend and it also was crowded, people were social distancing and most were wearing masks. My point is once the weather gets nicer there is no way people are not going to go out, I think it would be smarter to give them options so they can spread out.

I don't disagree.

I'm just concerned of doing this again in the Fall/Winter.

So, the parks office emailed me back.
Camping is allowed, but as of this writing units need to be self sufficient and contained.
They’re “not familiar with a VW camper” but tents aren’t allowed at this point and they will be strictly enforcing the one vehicle per site policy (which they’ve always been laxed on because we always have too many people)
Given that so many of our campers come from out of state, and so many are not Suffolk residents, I don’t anticipate a record turn out this year, and unfortunately don’t foresee many campers as self-contained so I believe our only real option is to cancel the event for 2020.
This is heartbreaking, as this would have represented our 20th year at the duck, but it seems to be the way of the world right now.
I may host a BBQ or something at my house I’m place for those local.
Thanks for the support and we’ll see you for 2021.
