I use nothing but BOSCH plugs. But NGK isn't that bad either.

Who did your timing? And how did they do it? With a gun or tester?

I've been using NGK for years and like them better than Bosch.

B5HS is a stock plug. B6HS is one grade colder.

if it was running fine before the old distributor was installed I personally would just put that one back in.

perhaps the points are out of adjustment or aren't any good or the condensor is bad or the vacuum advance isnt working correctly? or maybe even a couple of the spark plug wires aren't on the right place on the cap (I did that a couple times... )

Took the bug over to tony at gt precision.well i needed a valve adjustment really bad and i had no compression in 2 of my cylinders and somehow my brand new distributor cap on my brand new distributor managed to short out.I had a couple oil leaks that needed to be attended to also. But the car is running reallly well.It seems that that shop is really nice and they seem to run a good business.Just a tad pricey tho.

Tony is a great guy. I have heard he is pricey as well. I would guess this would earn you a ticket to GT Perfs. open house! So you'll get a smooth running car and maybe a sandwich out of the deal ! Glad to hear it is up and running. Now you need to pick up a book and some tools and do those adjustments and maintenance yourself.

Price is a relative term. Old cars are NOT cheaper to fix, they are more expensive because parts break and are harder to get. The old saying goes "the more you do the less you have to pay others" and the clock starts running when your car is driven in. I've been using Tony for 25 years and his hourly rate is in line and in fact less than other shops in south east Nassau.

I was there Tuesday when your car was in the shop. You brought it in running on 3 cylinders. Compression on #3 was around 30psi. Your valves were so tight that if you continued to drive it you would of burnt the valve and it would require the head to be replaced.

If you brought it to the corner gas station, they would not know what to do and it would of cost more and not run very well. I heard that you are driving to Florida, you should do another valve adjustment when you're down there. New engine needs a few valve adjustments for the first 1000 miles as they settle in. Not doing so can cause damage and you're engine builder will not warranty it.

The more you do the less you have to pay others... it's that simple.
